Time to head back to Munich, we had originally planned to drive over to Lake Heiterwanger to hike around the lake, but the weather keeps rolling in, clouds, rain off and on, making us think twice about our outdoor plans. Instead, we retrace the route we drove on the way down, passing by Lake Plansee again. The rain has stopped for now, and it was still early enough to make us decide to take a nature break at this lake. Lucking into a great parking spot next to the Seespitzbrucke, a pedestrian bridge that crosses the lake and gives access to hiking paths that actually led right to Lake Heiterwanger! Serendipity. Totally great diversion.

It is cold, the rain and snow pellets spit on and off, but the scenery is amazing. The treelined path, the snowcapped alps, the shimmering green lake, the beautiful mountains that seem like they just melt into the lake. And oh, the reflections. The water is so crystal clear, the reflections of the mountains on the opposing banks make it seem like we are looking into a mirror. Just stunning.

Then it is back to Munich we go, passing through Ettal and the beautiful monastery there, hitting the Autobahn with Ed Speed Racer getting the care up to 165 kph!!! (Actually he got it up to 170 but I couldn’t get that photo quick enough!)

Car returned, we make a quick stop at Lidl in the train station for dinner supplies – why go out in crappy weather when Lidl has all the local specialties (including some excellent Kartoffelsalat – potato salad – that we are addicted to) we can cook in our little condotel room? – and we are back in the warmth of our room, hanging out for the rest of the night. Nice way to end our very active day.
