11/2 – First of only 2 sea days

Our one and only sea day for this leg begins with a lovely dawn and our normal morning activities, curtailed just a bit for my early morning pre-booked deep discounted mani-pedi.  Eschewing breakfast, we wait to eat our midday meal at the Discoveries dining room brunch, excellent – and just as good as it used to be (and not like on Quest).  Then, we wiled away a few hours until our 1pm wine enrichment event: “How food affects wine.”

A completely unexpected fabulous 45 minutes (which turned into an hour and half, making us miss the Napoleon Bonaparte enrichment lecture), spent with Martin, the adorable sommelier we’ve sailed with before, and 6 others who were actually quite a fun group with whom to share the wine and cheese and food pairings.  It was really quite nice – and interesting how the food does affect the wine – and also just fun because two of our table partners were women who have known each other since high school I believe, and one of them was a wine snob who was absolutely hysterical in her reviews and comments about the wine and the food.  Quite a lovely event.

Afterward, because of course we haven’t had enough alcohol, we have our mimosas (from the complimentary champagne in our cabin) on the balcony, complimented with afternoon snacks Amman has brought to us. He asked if we wanted shrimp and cheese – sure, why not?  OMG!  Tons of shrimp and cheese – and far too much considering we are dining in Prime C tonight.  Ay yi yi!  But a lovely way to spend a sea day.
