Showered and refreshed after our day room stay at the Hilton, we walked back over to the terminal, going straight to security as our bags were already checked earlier in the day. Security was a breeze – so easy! Nothing had to come out of the bags, nothing. Not even the brownies. Simple. We were through there so quick, we had plenty of time for a lounge visit – and we had 3 to choose from. We ended up at No1 Lounge with great wine and beer and really good cheese and cracker snacks. We wanted to sort of fill up at the lounge in case the BA meals were as bad as the AA meals.
At our appointed hour, we get our gate designation and head out to the terminal, lucking out by getting through check in quickly allowing us to position ourselves in the prime spot, right by the boarding door. Not that it really mattered as we are zone 4 which means a whole heck of a lot of the plane boards before us. Turned out fine though, as we are literally at the back of the bus – 3 rows from the galley – the only 2 seat rows on the plane in economy. Nobody was back there when we got on, so we had all the overhead space we needed for our two relatively small in comparison back packs. Oh my! The next half an hour was pure entertainment! God only knows who these people pack, but they bring the biggest darn carry-ons you can imagine and then get upset when they can’t fit them in the overhead bins or there is no room – because one group brought 7 carry-ons – kid you not. And all BIG carry-ons at that. It was a joke. Don’t know how the FAs finally got everything on and fitted, but we actually pushed back and took off right on time. Doesn’t matter as much now, but still, nice.
And this flight was night and day from AA. Service excellent, snacks great (ok, why do they have Penn State pretzels? On a British Airway flight from Britain?), food really good (Turkey with stuffing and cranberry ragout for dinner looked unappealing, but was really quite delightful, and an excellent vegetable omelet for breakfast), wine plentiful, seats decent, we managed to sleep a bit at least, watched Downton Abbey: The Finale and read ourselves across the world and down to Mauritius. Not too bad at all.
