1/23 – Sea Day #1

A day of nothing for us – it starts though with someone else breaking into the gym early, which gives us full license to do the same.  (Of course we had to tell Vipin we didn’t do it first!)  Then, well, it is a day of nothing.  Sadly, the Insider has a huge mess up with the lectures listed incorrectly.  Dr. Aleksandrs has a talk about the moon, but it is listed at 11a in the main program and 2p on the hourly schedule list.  So, we hit the buffet early at 10a and just sort of hang out there until a little before noon – mostly because I wanted to have some of the fresh mango and bless the chef’s heart who was cutting them on demand – a lot were overripe mush forcing him to keep cutting and cutting until he found anything he could serve.  The line was ridiculously long.  Great idea, poor organization.

The noon announcement confirms the Insider confusion and it turns out we missed the Moon lecture.  But it is on the TV – so we watch it there, where I promptly fall asleep while Ed bravely tries to pay attention to the whole thing, making us both glad we missed it in person.

Then there is nothingness for the rest of the afternoon as I blog, Ed walks, reads, sits on the balcony.  Evening activities are slightly altered so that we can go meet the Cruise Critic group who we are sharing a tour with in Toalagnaro – who all seem to be a decent sort.  Fingers crossed that turns out to be true and it will all be well.  Then dinner – Poke!  Lots of tuna (ok, I’m obsessed with this since the Quest debacle).

Tonight we also switch up our normal activities and go to the comedy show, mostly because it is at 8:30.  OMG.  This guy – Mark Sampson –  is hysterical.  We are so glad we went.  First of all he is a bundle of energy, never stops moving.  And even before the show he is riffing on the entire audience – for 10 minutes he walks around the Cabaret talking to different people, asking who has been married longest/shortest – funny as all.  His actual show is side splitting and we hope he will be doing a 2nd evening show.  We know he’s doing an afternoon show on the 26th about his and his family’s 5 year journey around Africa.  Can’t wait to see that.

Then it is back to the cabin for a good night’s sleep before our last Madagascar day.
