1/19 – Sea Day #6

Typical morning, then an early lecture with Dr. Svetlana:

Will Fusion Change the World; all about how electricity demand growing faster than the world population; nuclear fusion may be able to meet demand; “Green” is simply a marketing word, real terms for that type of energy are Renewable (sun, wind, etc.) and clean (no carbon emission, nuclear fission/fusion).  The rest of the presentation gets a little technical and deep, but Dr. Svetlana keeps it fun and light.  She has a great style that keeps things interesting if they are far over my head!

Balcony time before lunch on the Patio – we’re passing on the Curries around the World in Discoveries.  Nice idea, but we’re (well I’m) not all that into curries. And the weather has moderated, so sitting outside is quite pleasant.

More down time in the afternoon until a couple of afternoon talks:

Peter Wardell, the resident guest entertainer, with a very funny and interesting talk about street scams and card sharks called The Right Way to Do Wrong (borrowed from Houdini); early scams and cons, apparatus created to help cons cheat at cards (like a holdout, a pouch stuck under the table to hold cards), live examples of how those 3 Card Monte guys cheat every time.  Really entertaining and enlightening.

Dr. Aleksandrs with Boom!  Exploring the Science of Catastrophic Explosions; a talk about all sorts of different explosions, which tbh, I left in order to take a quick little nap.  Ed enjoyed it though!

After the nap, we proceeded on with our last night of this leg of the cruise, gym, saying goodbye to Andrew who goes home tomorrow, dinner, saying goodbye to Joel who is moving stations (sadly) and the Living Room to figure out where Aldin is going (probably the wine cellar, or Jail as the bartenders call it!), Harmony Hive and balcony time.
