1/18 – Sea Day #5

Normal routine, differing today though with room service breakfast.  Oh, break out of the mold! Actually, it is more because we are avoiding the Loyalty breakfast which we just don’t care about – and don’t want to hassle with a buffet and the crowds! Then Mosaic for an hour or so and onto to the our first lecture of the day:

Dr. Aleksandrs with Science on Ice – the Arctic and Antarctic; A great presentation on iceberg movement, aurora locations – south and north, Arctic ice explorations and explanations on how hard it is because the ice moves and melts, ending with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory capturing information from beneath the Antarctic ice shelf.

Lunch next, then down time until our 2nd lecture:

Dr. Svetlana on Dark Matter – the Greatest Puzzle in the Universe; a talk about how there is evidence of gravitation influence on galaxies and cosmic structure – which quite frankly is way too deep for me, but Dr. Svetlana keeps everything so light and easy to understand, she is fun to listen to and watch.

Tonight we have dinner in Aqualina, which is absolutely empty – I mean it was a private dining room, just for us!  Seriously though, they have a big group of 52 coming at 8, so they didn’t take many reservations early, but still. By the end of our excellent meal, only 4 other couples had shown up.  Weird.  In October/November, you couldn’t get a reservation in either restaurant.  Tale of 2 cruises.

After dinner we head to the On Broadway show – OMG.  One of the best, if not the best, show we have ever seen on Azamara. And we’ve had some great casts and great shows.  This was simply heartfelt and fabulous and showcased everyone’s talents – and they even had a playbill they handed out!  Excellent!

That capped off our night quite nicely, as it was back to the cabin and bed for us.
