1/5 – Sea day #1

Oh, it is going to be a fun cruise! Time change last night, and of course, half the ship missed it.  The coffee line is huge in Windows with people saying their devices didn’t change “because they weren’t on the internet.”  Um, even if you were on the internet your devices wouldn’t change….sigh.  The gym is equally crazy with some guy who wants to know why the doors aren’t open at 6:45 – coz the gym doesn’t open until 7!  He still walks right in, only to find the gym door locked, but then figures out to break in through the spa back door.  We follow, because, while we hate to break in, we aren’t going to stand outside like dummies and then not get a treadmill.

After breakfast and showers we hit the Cabaret for Monique’s ShoreEx presentation – so great she is finally official in her ShoreEx asst. manager job.  Afterward we have lots of down time until lunch, then a full afternoon of guest lectures.

We have 3 guest lecturers this voyage:

  • Destination lecturer Antonette Madi who gives a talk on oral tradition and its role in education (the lecture itself is sweet and short with lots of talk about fables and knowledge handed down through families, etc.).
  • Enrichment lecturer Dr. Svetlana Barkanova who talks about how great Celestial voyages are for stargazing at sea covering the number of 88 constellations (88 total, 42 animals, 28 objects, 14 people and 4 others), how the sky changes region to region and month to month, as we sail, we see the constellations move through the sky and giving us recommendations on a couple good stargazing apps
  • Enrichment lecturer Dr. Aleksandrs Aleksejevs (who is married to Svetlana) talking about Space Telescopes (Refraction vs. Reflection, refraction is used now because they are easier to make and have better resolution)

And our afternoon is complete!  Gym, dinner at table #2 with Joel then music with Harmony Hive.  Tonight is the Captain’s Welcome and then a violinist which we eschew in lieu of sitting on the balcony in the gorgeous full moon, relaxing and reading until it’s time to turn in.
