5/26 – Home again, home again

After a very frustrating night of baggage delays in Charlotte, running around the rental car garage looking for our Enterprise car – we had called to confirm they would wait for us since we arrived at midnight, they said not to worry. We had checked in online and were told to go directly to our car in the garage. However, once we were there, the kiosk had a sign saying they were closed and for us to go to National. Okaaaaay. But they never said where National was located – there are 3 floors of rental cars here! We traipsed back downstairs to the rental car desks, where we ended up finding both Enterprise and National reps who told us to go out to the first floor garage. Sigh. Frustrating. We’ve now wasted 30 minutes trying to find the car, and to say we are tired is an understatement. Of course, that was just the beginning of the fun. It took at least another 30 minutes to check the car out because we were returning it in a different location, i.e., Asheville. Yikes!

Finally out of the garage and onto the hotel, we arrive close to 1am to find no one at the desk. Another customer is there waiting to check in as well. Ugh. This day just can’t get any longer! I finally called the hotel shuttle number, and a guy answered, who turned out to the be the desk clerk who was doing his security rounds. He shows up moments later, and ended up being a sweetheart. We chatted for a while, until we finally got our key and dragged ourselves down the hall to our room.

Finally situated, we drank our last beer and wine, then fell sound asleep in really comfy beds, arising rested and ready for the last part of our trip today. Memorial day drive home to Asheville. Which was a breeze with no traffic, putting us in the driveway well before noon. Unloading, returning the car, then organizing – we had laundry going and snacks arranged in no time.

As if we never left! Trip successfully over. Time for rest and relaxation until our next adventure…in exactly 6 weeks time.
