4/17 – Driving south to begin our next adventure

And we’re off!  Rental car picked up, suitcases onboard, house locked and prepared, we are on the road by 11:30 heading to Richmond Hill, GA, for our first night of travel.  We have a Toyota Prius rental, which TBH is the worst car!  It’s electronics are so confusing, and the gear shift is the worst.  Trying to get it into drive or reverse from Park is so frustrating – guess we’d get used to it if we had it for a while, but who needs it?  Ah well, only 48 hours and it will be but a memory.

The drive goes fairly well, but the traffic starts heating up on I-95, with all those frustrating, awful drivers!  Craziness.  Plus this particular driver with the dog out of the sunroof – at 60 MPH?  Really?  Some people!

We make it safely to Richmond Hill after only minor slowdowns on the way, hitting the Kroger on the way for gas and picnic lunch items for tomorrow, then settle into our nice hotel room (I still have Marshmallow PTSD and can’t get over how clean and lovely the room is!  Uh, yeah, of course it is, duh!).  Dinner tonight is at The 5 Spot, a new 2nd location for a popular Savannah restaurant.  We have reservations, but just to be safe, half the time we never need them. Oh boy, did we need them tonight!  They are slam packed busy – so much so that they need to clean a table for us, one that is in a side room that has a huge group in it.  There is a nice bar there, which we opt to use for dinner!  It looks much more pleasurable than sitting in a crowded, noisy room.  And it was – great drinks, food – Fried chicken salad for me, fish and chips for Ed – nice atmosphere.  A pleasant way to end our first travel day.

Back at the hotel, we turned in for some TV and rest before the long, icky I-95 through Florida drive tomorrow.
