1/17 – Changi Airport overnight

Off the plane, we hit the terminal and head toward Immigration.  Once there, wow! We were through in no time.  It was super fast, including Ed’s fingerprint not working!  Their upgraded electronic systems, along with online arrival card, really works wonders.  Our bags are checked all the way through to Bali, so we don’t have to wait for anything, making our exit out into the arrival terminal quick and easy.   It is a quick 5 minute walk to the sky train, taking us through the Jewel Rainforest, to Terminal 3 for the Crowne Plaza airport hotel.  Amazingly easy.  We checked right in, and wow, what an awesome room! Expensive but oh so worth it. Tomorrow morning, we just walk to the other terminal, go through immigration and hit the lounge and the gate. No fuss no muss.  But for now, we have our whole evening ahead of us here.

After a quick shower and change of clothes (it is already hot and humid here – we’re changing into shorts!), we go out to explore Jewel – the mall that is wrapped around the rainforest in the center of the complex.  We were actually looking for a noodle restaurant, but Jewel is so monstrous, we could never figure out which floor it was on.  Ended up taking the easy way out and settled on the first restaurant we found that had alcohol! It was Mexican, but who cares? We have weeks of Asian food in our future, Mexican will be great tonight.

The restaurant has tables overlooking the rainforest, which makes it even better.  We order drinks and just hang out, enjoying the great view and atmosphere. We can see the giant waterfall from here.  Perfect!  Dinner is a shared chicken quesadilla and an order of salchipapas (the Mexican version of Poutine – sausages over French fries with sauce).  Yummy.

After dinner, we walk off our food (and 19-hour flight) by exploring the tropical rainforest and watching the waterfall light and music show.   Over the top

Our final stop is the grocery store for beer and wine, then back to the hotel.  We honestly can’t believe that we aren’t falling out by now! But we feel really good considering. Thus, the beer and wine, while we watch a couple of TV shows and finally hit the sack. Tomorrow, our final travel leg – then a whole week of hanging out and sweating!
