Another long travel day begins. Breakfast finishes off the remaining bread and butter. Bags are packed and lugged down the steps. Taxi ordered at 10am. As we are leaving, we meet Micky’s housekeeping lady who gives us a little thank you present of 2 traditional Thai bags. Micky is so sweet and thoughtful! If we come back (we always say this is the last time, and then we come back again and again!), we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The house is way too big for us, but it is so nice, and perfectly located. Hopefully we’ll see it again one of these days.

We are quickly at the airport – it is barely 10 minutes away – and checked into our noon flight in no time. Lounge for coffee, then onto the plane we go. It is a fast an uneventful flight – with a full hot meal! How do they do that? The flight is a little over an hour, cheap as dirt, and we still get a full meal? It’s always been this way on Bangkok Air – we’ll never figure it out – but we love it.
Arriving in Bangkok, we collect our luggage and walk over to the International departures area to check into our Singapore Air flights. Super easy and simple, we get our boarding passes and information on which lounge we can use and head to security. Which is a breeze – both security and passport control are quick and seamless. We’re in the terminal in no time – for a really long 5 hour layover. We tried to get the earlier flight to Singapore, but it was full, so we will be here for the duration. We figured we’d hit a couple lounges – one with our Priority pass, one with the Singapore Business class ticket. Works like a charm. We snack at the Priority lounge, which is very nice and have a decent selection of food and beverages. Then move on over to the Singapore lounge, which has equally good selections. And lets us move around a bit before our 8pm flight.
Lounged out, we head to our gate and hop on our ride to Singapore. Another quick flight – only 2 plus hours – with a full meal there too. Ed has the fish, which is good, I have the beef and noodles which is not. The noodles are great, the beef that icky stew consistency. Yuck. But, really, after all our lounge snacking, the noodles are just fine for me – and the accompanying bread, salad and brownie cake dessert are excellent.

Before we know it we have arrived at Changi airport – that over the top, overwhelming airport that looks more like a small city than an airport! We love this airport and would have loved to spend more time here – but as it is, we only have a 2 hour layover, so off to the lounge we go. We’re eating dinner here, even though Singapore Airlines has a special book the cook menu that looks so delicious. Because the flight leaves so late – 1am – we don’t want to eat at 2 in the morning or whenever they decide to serve. We’re planning to sleep our way to Johannesburg, so lounge dinner it is.

At the appointed time, we head to the gate and board our plane. Then make ourselves comfy for the night. Good decision skipping the meal too, because there is turbulence and the cabin service doesn’t start for a long, long, time. I’ve already got the bed out and organized before the attendants are even allowed to leave their seats! (I did get chastised for getting up to open the bed – seat belt sign and all! Oops, sorry!).
