3/28 – Evening arrival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands

In the early evening, we luck out with the best views of Mt. Teide, its peaks topped with the first snow.  It is hardly ever this clear, and a complete joy to watch as we take our afternoon exercise in the gym, an then later on the upper decks of the pool. Once we round the end of the island, there are more spectacular sunset views of Tenerife before we dock right at 9pm.

We decided we would go out tonight, just to reconnoiter and jog our memory as to where Cicar was located for our rental tomorrow, as well as do some intel for the crew to tell those who haven’t been here how long of a walk it is into town and how to do it.  We don’t have the best dock position, we are pretty far down, and it take us 25 minutes to walk to town, and we walk fast.  Plus this is Holy week, Maundy Thursday to be exact, and while there are bars and restaurants open at 9:30 at night, we’ve no idea what will be open when most of the crew comes out around 11 or 11:30.  All we can do is report back and let them make the decision.  At least it was a lovely night for a walk.

Heading straight to the Living Room upon our return, there is Creweoke tonight! Fun, we loved Creweoke on the Pursuit.  It was so great, tons of crew were upstairs to watch and cheer everyone on, it was a great party.  Uh, not so much here on Quest.  There is hardly any crew up here, and certainly no officers.  Alered is here, but as it turns out, he is a singer.  There is something decidedly different (I’d even go so far as to say wrong) about this ship and maybe management?

Anyhow, Gayle is also singing tonight – which is one of the big reasons we are back. We wouldn’t miss her for the world.  Everyone who sang was great, and we even saw Gede, our stateroom attendant from the Japan cruise, who is singing and now up on Deck 8. He’s been here the whole time and we’ve not seen him once in 3 weeks!  How crazy is that.  Gayle performs the Bee Gee’s “Massachusetts” much to everyone’s delight, and she is such a ham!  So funny and personable and totally outgoing.  It is a great evening all around.
