2/20 – Off to San Antonio and HAL Oosterdam

Bye, bye Santiago.  It’s been a fun 3 days, but we are up and out and off to the bus station for our Flix bus to San Antonio.  We manage to get an Uber easily enough, although it was still a bit of a wait to get a large size car for the suitcases. We gave ourselves plenty of time and end up with about 45 minutes to wait at the bus station.

Getting there was easy, finding where the bus will be not so easy. There are no signs, no lists of where the buses will park and from where they leave, and only one office for Flix, which has a line that is not moving.  We see the early bus at lane 1, so figure our bus should be somewhere near.  Thinking we’ll ask at the office, we go stand in line and wait, and wait, and wait. The first customer takes for freaking ever – so we abandon that and head to the bus gates, spying another Flix bus going somewhere else.  I asked the bus driver there about our bus, and he points us to lane 3. Perfect.

We were first in line when the bus arrives, hand over our luggage and are happily ensconced in our front row seats, all cozy and happy for the 2-hour ride to San Antonio.  Seriously, the bus is like new, the seats are comfy, the ride good – and all for under $15 for the both of us.  How can you go wrong?

Arriving at San Antonio bus station right on time, we snag our luggage and make the quick 3 block walk to the pier.  From there, it is seamless. We hand over our luggage, breeze through the check-in, hop on the shuttle bus to the ship and are the first new passengers aboard! Smooth as silk.  We’re in the Lido for lunch before we know it!

The cabins are released pretty quickly so we head off to our aft Neptune suite – a splurge well worth it for the balcony alone!  Massive – and perfect for glacier gazing.  The cabin is spacious as well, with more nooks and crannies and shelves then one would ever need.  Dumping our bags and organizing a bit, we jump into our exercise gear and hit the gym before the raffle begins and then start our routine at the Lido pool bar on those ungodly uncomfortable stools.

Later, unpacked and settled, we head to dinner, the welcome show and our balcony – we’re off to cruise around the Horn!
