Today, we are just decompressing (yeah, like we need to decompress, but regardless….) and hanging around Skala for the day. We are up early – of course – and after our coffee in the house, we go explore the neighborhood around our little house, walking out to the little rocky beach on the opposite side from the Harbor. It is just a little cove, really, with some holiday villas and a couple of hotels around. But there is this great stone arch at the end of a little channel. It is beautiful – although we’ve no clue what it is used for. Except scenery, which is lovely.

From here we reverse course, walking back through the mostly deserted town (oh, we love it here before season!) and then following the waterline for a long walk around the harbor. We decide against walking to Meloi at the far end of the peninsula that faces Skala – mostly because the road is uphill and we figure, why? So we walk down the harbor and over to the little church that is right on the waterfront. We figure it is a sailor’s chapel, being so close to the water and the harbor. It is sweet and little and so very Greek Island-ish!

On our way back, we stumble upon a beautiful little graveyard we don’t recall seeing before. While exploring we notice almost all the graves are new – so maybe it is new? But it is right here on the waterfront road, and that doesn’t seem possible – but who knows? And while there is a priest here, we’re not asking! Just idle curiosity.

We continue along the water, back through town, stopping a little coffee shop for an excellent Tiropita – our first of the trip! We’ve waited so long for this! And some ok cappuccino. The Tiropita was the star – for sure. Now we’re on to the other big grocery store in town for more supplies – then it is back to the house for our leftover Souvlaki – which is every bit as good the next day!
We spend the rest of the day reading and relaxing – Ed down in the garden, me upstairs on the lounger under the umbrella. Excellent day!
Much later we manage to get ourselves motivated to go to dinner – choosing Trehantiri Taverna – a little place toward the stone beach we explored this morning. We figure it won’t be busy – and it wasn’t overly busy – but unfortunately all the tables in the shade were taken. Pooh! We managed to snag one that wasn’t too full on sunny (sunset here is late!) and ordered what turns out to be way too much food – all good – but way too much! We of course have to try the Saganaki – this is our go to dish everywhere to determine the best preparation. I decided to go with beetroot salad with garlic sauce – I’ve not had a good beet in forever. The plate that comes out is massive (I should know better!) – it’s fabulous, but just huge! Our biggest tactical error is ordering the zucchini balls. We actually wanted the octopus balls but they are out of them, so we went with zucchini – and while they are excellent, they are oh so filling! And we still had grilled octopus (which ended up coming out fried) to deal with! Ay yi yi! More leftovers for snacks or lunch! But a lovely, lovely dinner.

Our evening is spent much as our afternoon – on the rooftop enjoying the peace and quiet and the weather. Perfect spot to end our days!
