4/3 – Sea Day

A fairly normal start to our day. Up rather late though, due to the hour forward tine change. But the gym was virtually empty, weird, and then breakfast was as well. Works for us!

First lecture on the history of Taiwan was great. I’m learning so much! But, uh oh.  In the middle of the lecture the captain comes on the PA to let us know why we’ve slowed down from 18 knots to 13.  We’ve lost power on the port propulsion system. Oh. And don’t worry about the smoke. It’s all been cleared out now. Um.  And there’s a storm coming tonight, btw.  Does this sound familiar?  Can anyone day Norwegian Star?  Sigh.  The captain will update us when he knows more, and he has a 2pm talk, so…..more later!

On to more pleasant subjects: food!  Today is Asian day! There is the noodle bar today, which Ed avails himself of, and I go for the Gado Gado and sushi. All excellent! And tonight is Tamarind!  The special extra cost Asian restaurant!  Asian day. You know we’re happy campers.

The afternoon proceeds as normal, Japan’s dwindling population lecture and the captain announcing that they have managed to get the propulsion system back up at 50% capacity, so we will have no problems getting to Kagoshima. They are shipping the replacement part from another ship – don’t know the delivery time, but we should be fine.  Ok. Fingers crossed!

The rest of the afternoon goes as normal. Gym, drinks and then Tamarind, the special Asian restaurant that replaces Caneletto on these ships that don’t have Tamarind as a regular restaurant.  So worth it, and so, so good!  We ordered a bunch of appetizers and one main and shared everything.  Just excellent preparation and taste. And, bonus!  It’s gala night and we didn’t have to dress up for it! Perfect!  We have drinks in the piano bar, but they are playing the crooners hits – and well, not for us. So back to the cabin we go.  It is a violinist in the theater, and while everyone says he’s fabulous – um – yeah, not for us.  Nope.  We’re happy hanging out in the cabin, watching movies, reading and blogging.  It’s a good night all around.
