The day is finally here. Natalie and Roger are driving down from Reading to pick us up for brunch/lunch and then just time together. I’m so excited – it has been so long since we have been together in person. Our Skype calls are always wonderful, but being able to be together in person is so much better.
Huge hugs and more hugs and smooches all around when we finally get through the port authorities and to the car! Then we are off to a lovely little pub where have a wonderful brunch lunch of pancakes (for Natalie and Roger and me) and a full English for Ed. Then we just spend a wonderful late morning and early afternoon reminiscing and catching up. We had brought sweets from Brugges for everyone – including macaroons which we know Natalie loves. They brought us honey from their 2nd home, Andorra, but he piece de resistance was a painting Natalie made of us. Simply by looking at all the photos I have been sending her throughout our travels, she managed to paint a portrait that is so realistic. Just amazing. I had tears in my eyes when we opened it. Still do every time I see it.

After lunch we walked a bit through the park, but it was pretty chilly even with jackets, so we repaired to the car and just sat there and chatted in the warmth until it was time to return to the ship.

Our visit was over far too soon and we were all a little teary eyed as we parted at the cruise terminal. What a wonderful day it was though, and so sweet for the two of them to drive all this way just to see us for a few hours.
Back on board, we are already sensing this will be a tale of 2 cruises! It already feels more crowded. There are definitely more people aboard (as our guest relations friend said it “feels heavier”!). And BOAT LOADS more kids, and I’m talking baby kids. Ay yi yi. This should be interesting!
The rest of the day progresses as normal. Gym, bar, dinner, then onto the showroom where we take our traditional seats at the far end of the upper balcony – we feel like royalty up here! Not to mention, they are some of the best seats in the house – and now that Nathaniel, one of our favorite wait staff, has found us here – we’re set for drinks! An excellent way to end an absolutely perfect day.
