6/8 – Patmos, time two

Patmos has become our favorite island. We absolutely adored our full day here last week, and since we basically covered the entire island then, today we are taking it easy and just wandering around in Skala then grabbing lunch somewhere.

Watching our approach to the island, we have our breakfast on the balcony…

…spending a leisurely morning aboard, then off the ship around lunch time, we wandered all over, checking out restaurants and buying tons of bakery goods for our breakfasts! While Ed gets his full eggs, etc., breakfast, I just like fruit and pastries – so we pick up a cheese pie (to which I have become addicted) and other pastries to keep us going throughout the cruise. Oh, and finally figuring out what that great pastry was on White Night – Saragllakia. Yum.

Walking all the way around the harbor, we peruse all the little cafes, including the one with the tables on the sandy beach. Nothing is really striking our fancy, so we end up making our way back to a lovely little seafood place right across from the ship called Mermaids. We’re outside, in the shade. Momma cooked, her son took the orders, the dog slept in the sun. What could be more perfect? Besides the excellent food! Fried cheese, octopus, shrimp saganaki and Ed posing as a grizzled seafarer. As I said, perfection!

We next took to the streets, meandering our way up the hill to a pretty little family owned chapel, taking in the views around the mountainsides, the town and of course the ship.

Exploring more, we came across a beautiful square with interesting architecture and some cute little shops.

Then we were back aboard for the afternoon of sailing (bye bye Patmos – we’ll be seeing you again – that’s a promise!)…

…and dining and the Cabaret show with Steven and Grace and the singers and dancers. They had the best selection of show tunes. Every single one were our favorites from All That Jazz to Wicked to Miss Saigon. Awesome.

Then it was back to the balcony for another lovely evening.
