4/29 – Off to Tallinn

We have a very late flight this evening at 7:25 and Henrik has allowed us to check out late, which is so nice and helpful. Thus, we are up and out and walking around the harbor early, heading to Middelalderparken, a little park with with medieval ruins along the river. It’s a nice way to start the day, with lots of good scenery and the remains of Mariakirkens – St. Mary’s Church – the oldest church, built around 1050 and then expanded upon over the years.

A nice way to start the day. We clean up the apartment, finish our packing, then hoof it over to the trains station and onto the airport – where no one was wearing masks and it was crazy busy! Of course we wore our masks, looks be damned. And we were stuck out in the terminal too, as there was no Priority lounge here. So, we sat and walked and wandered and finally landed in a nice little open restaurant called “Borgen & Moi Food Garage.” Ok, the Food Garage sold us! Great meal – shared an amazingly large burger and Chicken Caesar salad, had beer and wine. $76 USD later….all good. It was our dinner, and a good way to while away our time until the flight.

And oh, the flight! Thank God it was short, because it was the weirdest, loudest flight we’ve ever been on! A cacophony is the only way to describe it! It sounded like they were doing Buddhist chants behind us. Or it was a bar or pub at 30k feet. You couldn’t hear yourself think. And nobody listened to the safety briefing or the pilot!!! We figured we were good – these yahoos wouldn’t have a clue what to do and we’d be saved in an emergency. Sheesh.

The only consolation was the gorgeous sunset out the plane windows.

Finally landed in Tallinn where our Welcome Pickup driver was waiting and we were whisked into the city and dropped off at our hotel by 10:30. All around us are signs of solidarity with Ukraine, which is so heartwarming.

Then it was check-in and hit the hay – long day and we have plans (of course we do) for all day tomorrow before our official tour begins!
