4/25 – Oslo here we come

Breakfast on the plane. Nice omelet.  Lounge access, excellent.  Shower refreshing. Coffee lovely.  Transfer to Terminal 3, long, but uneventful (outside security always a pain, but made more bearable by the lounge access), walk between terminal 5 concourses, once again empty, like zombie land.  Then we’re at the next lounge for our last couple of hours wait for the flight to Oslo.

The flight goes off without a hitch and we are picking up our bags in Oslo before we know it.  Out into the terminal, train tickets purchased, we’re in the Central Oslo train station in record time. Now its just a short walk to the apartment – if we can figure out the way.  We somehow miss the ramp going down to the sidewalk level and haul the bags down a flight of stairs, but after that it is a simple walk to the Joker convenience store to pick up the keys to the apartment through the key-drop system (which works ok, but the store clerks are totally surly and not very helpful and the key-drop key pad is really not responsive, but we finally prevail, fortunately!).

Picking up a few meager supplies at the Joker, we walk the block and a half to the apartment, negotiate the keyfobs and ride the elevator up the 7th floor (thank God there is a lift!) to the best flat we’ve had since Lisbon!  Henrick and Anders have outdone themselves, this is a sweet, homey place – compact but totally livable – with a huge patio/balcony that runs the width of the place – and perfect for an evening meal or drink when the sun is shining.  Plus, the apartment is the best stocked we’ve ever rented.  Every type of spice or condiment or coffee or tea you could want – which is so very helpful when you want to cook your meals (especially here with the prices.  Oh boy – we’ll get to that later!).

It is so very nice to be able to settle in for a week and not worry about packing/unpacking or ungodly wake up calls.  Oh, and doing the laundry.  There is that too!

Since we’ve been eating all day and we really don’t want to go out, we picked up some microwave pizza type snacks at the Joker which is a perfect dinner for a very long 2 days flying and traveling.  Day done.  We’re hitting the hay in the comfy bed and getting a real night’s rest before our explorations begin in the morning.
