Let’s see – what did we do today? Again, not much of anything really! We walked through Ala Moana park in the morning, yes, sticking to the water side!

We read. We hung out on the balcony. We splurged on Poke at the ABC store (priced well, but we still have enough food, so we really didn’t need it, thus the splurge!) so we added that to our leftover lunch of sausage and garlic bread. PS – the Poke was really good – I wasn’t expecting much from ABC, but I was happily surprised.

We read some more. In the afternoon we walked along the canal that runs from the harbor down toward the zoo, which was a very nice diversion. On the way back, we took the street route, walking through the main streets of Waikiki, stopping for an afternoon refreshment at Maui Brewing Company in the Beachcomber hotel. We got there a bit before happy hour, but stayed for a second round, listening to a great singer/guitarist.
Back on the street, we walked through the heart of Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue. Holy cow! How this place has changed! I mean it has been forever and a day since we’ve been here on this stretch of the road, but still. It is lined with all high-end stores, one after the other – just name a brand. Gucci – you got it. St. Laurent. Yep. Tiffany’s. Uh huh. Louis Vuitton. All there and accounted for – oh, and all totally devoid of customers. Crazy! The International Market, which I recall as this Polynesian looking outdoor market with stalls and bamboo is now a totally upscale mall. Wow!

Needless to say, we are happy to retreat to our little area of the world up north of the main drag! There we spend the rest of the afternoon organizing, reading and eating our left over Vietnamese Pho (yes, straight out of the pot) and Pork noodles while watching Law & Order as it returned in its original story line.
And that’s that for Waikiki. Tomorrow – we’re off to Maui.
