We spend twosday (2/22/22) doing a bunch of nothing! Just hanging out, walking around and relaxing. We of course wake up way too early – 5:30am Hawaiian Standard Time, but I mean, our bodies are telling us it is 10:30am, so who are we to argue! We spend the next couple of hours on the balcony, drinking coffee, catching up on the world and waiting for the sunrise.
Once the sun appears over the horizon, we strike out for our walk around Ala Moana regional park, this huge park right over the bridge past the marina. It is a beautiful park and a lovely walk, although we make the tactical error of trying to do a loop out toward the main street where there is a ton of construction in the park and on the path. Which forces us to climb over knee walls to get to the street sidewalk, and in some cases, walk on this narrow little curbing – not even a sidewalk. Note to self: Stay by the water!!!
But, the silver lining is that we walk right past the Ala Moana mall, which is where the Target is located – with a full service grocery store – so we can deviate really easily there to pick up food for the condo. Unfortunately, it is an unplanned stop, so I don’t have the back pack or bag. Sigh. We’ll have to buy another bag. Just what we need – but it is necessary to carry back our purchases.
We manage to snag some decent snacks/food – although stocking is pretty decimated, supply chain issues and all, particularly here on an island where everything is either flown or delivered over water – and a couple of apples on sale for 29 cents each. Yay! Deal! The shopping bag only costs 94 cents, so that isn’t even an issue. Nice diversion!
Back at the condo, we hang out, eat our lunch of left over nachos, then go try to walk down Waikiki beach, which proves harder than anticipated. Getting to the beach is a challenge, having to go through a million resorts, and the paths along some of the micro-parks aren’t very long or inviting. We end up wandering around for a bit, past the military museum, then turning back to the Ilikai for an afternoon on the balcony reading.

Tonight, for dinner, we order from Pho Minh Thu, a Vietnamese restaurant we found close by. They have tons of different Pho – which Ed has a craving for – and other great dishes, like Summer Rolls (to share) and Sliced Pork Vermicelli for me. Its a really quick walk over (7 minutes) and the food is ready when we arrive. The proprietor is so sweet and nice – it’s a little teeny place attached to a self service laundry (cleaning and food – what more could you ask for?). We grab our bags and head back to the condo for a totally scrumptious Vietnamese meal – with enough left over for a 2nd dinner later in the week!

Then it’s Tv (Chopped) all night and early (for me) to bed!
