12/5 – Civitavecchia – turn over day

Everything goes quite smoothly today.  We are up, at the gym, down to Guest Relations to get our new Haven keycard, showered and breakfasted all before our 8:30 out of the cabin requirement.  Leaving our bags behind, we make good use of the Haven access by going up to the lounge and hanging out until our room is ready.

The staff is great – bartenders and servers very friendly – but the space is really small.  The lounge seats maybe 24 and the bar seats 7 or 8.  No social distancing up here though!  No seats are marked off as out of use, which to some degree you’d have to expect because it is so small, and the Haven is sold out for this cruise.  Will be very interesting to see how this progresses….along with the people up here!

We get bored after a bit and decide to see if we can dump our backpacks in the room and just wander around. But, when we go to the room, it is already clean and done – and our bags and clothes have been delivered. Perfect!  So, now we have something to do – unpack!

Which really doesn’t take too long.  The hardest part is deciding where to put things since there is so much room in this cabin!  It is great – nice big living room/dining area with bar set up, decent size balcony (a little small, but definitely better than the first cabin’s balcony), 2nd bedroom which is small, but it is simply our storage room, a 2nd bathroom which is very handy and the master suite.  The bathroom is huge, full size soaking tub, separate shower with that cool window, separate toilet and huge vanity with double sinks.  The master bedroom has an enormous bed, which is super comfy, but a little tight in the space.  The bed takes up so much room, you have to shimmy sideways to get out on the wall side, and past one of the closets and tv.  Not a biggie – it is so worth it to be up here, with all this space for the crossing.

We already know there are 1000 more passengers on this cruise, so it will be crazy busy.  And we now have 7 sea days since Bermuda is no longer on the itinerary, so this cabin will be an excellent place to hide away!  Plus the Haven benefits of priority disembarkation in ports, early entry into shows (which is a necessity on this type of ship, even sailing with reduced capacity), plus separate lounge and restaurant make it ideal.

Unpacked and ready to go – we head out into the virtually empty ship to check in to our new muster station, then just sort of wander about, wasting time until sail away.

Tomorrow begins the final leg of our journey home.  Hard to believe it will be over in 18 days!  Seems like just yesterday we were flying out of Asheville to begin our long-awaited adventure.
