3/16 – The short drive home

Surprisingly, we aren’t up too early this morning.  After another shower, breakfast and coffee we are on the road and home before 10am.  Pretty quick and easy trip.  We return the car and start off on our errands to hit the grocery stores before too much panic buying ensues.  We already know there are no toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizers or Clorox wipes to be found, oh, and chicken.  Really? Chicken? But we find the answer to the chicken at Harris Teeter, where the meat department lady explains that chicken has such a short shelf life, they can only order so much of it, whereas beef lasts longer so they can order further out. That makes sense.  We still score some chicken thighs, coffee (which we badly needed) and other necessities before hitting Aldi for more necessities like eggs and wine and soup and bread.  It’s really not too bad here – but we have the feeling Asheville is still living in this little bubble world which is about to burst any day now.

But for now, we are totally happy to be home and settled and hunkered down to see what will come in the ensuing days. And ordering take out from our fav restaurants since the day we arrive home, the state puts into effect an emergency order which essentially shuts downs restaurants except for take out. It’s going to be a long, long row to hoe here……but we’ll make the best of it! What else can we do?
