2/21 – Sea Day

We go about our day in the normal fashion.  Gym, lectures (one guy from NASA who is really good, one history professor who is, well, for me, not so good – I’d flunk his class for sure coz I can’t listen to him), listening to trivia (which we should start playing because you get participation stamps for prizes) and finding all the crew that we’ve met before, mostly on Pursuit about 18 months ago.  It is like a family, that is for certain. And already so much better than our Oceania Insignia experience.  You can just tell how happy everyone is and how much they love being here and doing their jobs.  We had trepidation, hoping against hope that the atmosphere had not changed on Azamara, and we are so happily relieved to find it is absolutely the same wonderful experience we remember.  Huge happy sigh.

Oh, we also went to a Q&A presentation on Ardmore ceramics, a company in Durban that hires local artists to throw, sculpt and paint ceramics.  A painter and clay thrower are onboard (although the thrower has a little bit of sea sickness and can’t come to the Q&A).  The pieces are phenomenal and of course give me tons and tons of ideas, not that I’d ever be able to make anything this wonderfully ornate, but I’ll sure do my best!  The painter, Abel, is young and sweet and tells us about the teams at the company, how the system works and how he paints different patterns within a set scheme.  It’s really a nice way to introduce local artists to the ship and a really sweet treat for them to come aboard and sail with us for a few days.  When asked how Abel found his experience on the ship, he answered, “Interesting.”  LOL.

So, that being said….it was a very good sea day!  Now we are ready for the Addo Elephant park tomorrow.
